After much anticipation and preparation, the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) U16 championships will commence today at the renovated Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Mandela Avenue.
The event will commence with the Male Section from 13:00hrs.
With the home side slated to be the main attraction on opening night against Aruba, Antigua and Bahamas will officially open the event.
The second fixture will then pit Barbados against the British Virgin Islands from 15:15hrs while the third contest will witness Jamaica locking horns with Suriname at 17:30hrs.
The aforesaid match will occur following the end of the opening ceremony from 17:45hrs. Following the pageantries, all eyes will be on the hosts in their encounter from 20:00hrs.
While not seeded amongst the early tourney favourites, Guyana is expected to progress to the final four stage from the initial group round. Anything other than a semi-final berth would be considered as a disappointment.
The locals will select their squad from the likes of Kevon Wiggins, Kelmar Carmichael (New Amsterdam Multilateral), Shamar France, Jermaine King (Berbice High), Andrew Johnson, Nigel Bowen, (Plaisance Secondary), Roydon Glasgow, (Bishops’ High), Akeem Crandon, Kareem Boyle (President’s College), Jordan Alphonso, Jahleel Young (Marian Academy) and Zion Gray (Tutorial High).
Meanwhile on day two of the event, Bahamas will faceoff with the British Virgin Islands from 13:15hrs while Aruba will match skills with Trinidad and Tobago from 15:30hrs. In the third affair, Antigua and Barbuda will lock horns with Dominica from 17:45hrs while Guyana will battle traditional rival Suriname in the feature showdown from 20:00hrs.
On the other hand, the Female Division will commence on July 12th at the same venue, with their squad being selected form the likes of Annalesa Barker (New Amsterdam Multilateral), Saffiya Greene (Berbice High) Daniella King (Plaisance Secondary) Kesann Charles and Jayla Jones (Bishops ’High) Onika Rogers, (Kwakwani Secondary) Demelza Nicholas and Annalisa Barclay (President’s College), Jada Mohan, Georgianna Vyphius, Kellian Sauers and Jahrier Young (Marian Academy) and Rashida Hinds (United States).
