An overseas-based Guyanese was assaulted, tied-up and robbed by two bandits at his Number 63 Village, Corentyne home just before mid-day on Saturday.
Kumar Nandan, 46, told Stabroek News that one of the perpetrators was armed with a long gun. The incident occurred at around 11am.
The bandits ransacked the man’s house and carted off a cell phone, $10,000 and a wristwatch which Nandan was wearing at the time.
The man told Stabroek News that he returned to Guyana one week ago. According to him, he was fixing his car and had just visited the washroom when he was confronted by the bandits. “I walked and went into the house and as I came out, there were two fellows. One had a gun,” the man related.
“Who closes their door at 11 o’clock in the day,” he questioned. He said the perpetrators demanded cash and jewellery. “I told them that I don’t have money, then I asked them if they ever see me with gold,” he recounted. “The tall one tell the short one to tie me up,” he added.
He said the bandits continued to demand cash and he told them that he only had $10,000 in his possession and pointed them towards it. Nandan said the men asked for his firearm as they pushed him onto a bed.
“I tell them that I don’t have a firearm,” he recounted. “Then the one with the gun tell me not to look at him and I told him that if he is right in front of me, where else does he want me to look,” the man said. “They look more scared than me,” he added.
After grabbing the items, the perpetrators ran through the street to a waiting car and escaped. Nandan recalled that he was talking with a neighbour on Friday, when he saw the same car in the community.
“It was parked till over so in front of that house and I wanted to see the number plate. We waited for a long time,” Nandan recounted. However, he said, they assumed that it may have been a male and female wanting some private time. “But people don’t come in here like that,” he added.
No arrest has yet been made.
