After back-to-back wins in this year’s Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 tournament, Guyana’s Amazon Warriors returned home to prepare for their upcoming matches at the Providence National Stadium.
The team arrived at the the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on Sunday afternoon following respective wins over the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots and defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders.
Head Coach Roger Harper, upon his team’s return to home soil, said he was pleased with the Warriors current form, adding that he wanted to ensure they gained a solid position on the points table.
“I think everyone is happy with the results that we had over the last two games and the way the team has performed but we know it’s only the first two games, there is still a lot of way to go in the competition, so we’re not getting carried away, we are coming home and looking to control our position at home.”
As for the mood in the camp after two comprehensive wins, the former West Indies all-rounder added, “I think everyone is enjoying each other’s company, the team spirit is very high; as far as performances are concerned.
“It’s not about what the team looks like on paper, it’s about how the guys perform on the park and I think a lot of senior guys are putting their hands up and trying to lead from the front, so that is very good for the team,” Harper said.
The Warriors open their first home game against the Chris Gayle Jamaica Tallawahs on Thursday from 19:00hrs and will then play against the Patriots on Saturday.
Next up will be arch rivals the Trinbago Knight Riders on Sunday from 19:00hrs before the team wraps up its home leg of games against the St. Lucia Zouks next Tuesday from 19:00hrs.
