Tourney favourite The Bahamas continued their dominant displays, mauling British Virgin Islands (BVI) 101-40 when the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) u16 Championship continued yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
It was the second 100 point showing for The Bahamians following their 109-71 victory over Antigua and Barbuda on the opening day.
Michael Cartwright led the way with 17 points and nine rebounds while Dominic Bridgewater and Samuel Hunter scored 14 points each and Michael Williams recorded 13 points and eight rebounds.
For BVI, K’Moi Walters and Donaldson Layne scored 10 points each. Seizing control of the fixture following a 20-8 opening period, The Bahamas basically ended the contest as they outshot BVI 28-9 in the second quarter to lead 48-17 at the halftime interval. The third period was a continuation of their dominance as they netted 31 points to their foe’s six points to lead 79-23 heading into the final stanza. The lopsided result was sealed as The Bahamas outscored their opponents 22-17.
On the other hand, Aruba rebounded from their opening night loss to host nation Guyana to defeat Trinidad and Tobago by a 77-59 margin. Similarly, Antigua and Barbuda crushed Dominica 113-34. Up to press time, Guyana and Suriname were set to face-off. The event will resume at the same venue today with another four matches.
