President David Granger yesterday announced that Guyana intends to appoint a High Commissioner to CARICOM whose office will be based in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
Speaking to reporters just after the first set of meetings of the 37th conference of CARICOM Heads of Government at the Pegasus Hotel, the President said Guyana is in discussion with the Trinidadian government to open the High Commission in Port-of-Spain and it is one means of strengthening ties with CARICOM states.
“We need a [High Commissioner] to CARICOM and it is likely that High Commission will be based in Trinidad,” the Guyanese head of state said.
