The Guyana Cancer Prevention Society (GCPS) is holding a public lecture on cancer of the cervix at the George-town Public Hospital today at 6 pm.
The lecture will be delivered by Professor C.N. Purandare. Cervical cancer is a leading cause of death among women.
The lecture will be held in the New Maternity Block of the GPHC, New Market Street entrance.
Purandare is an expert in Obstetrics and Gynecology and President of the International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Purandare is visiting Guyana at the invitation of Dr. Carl Niamatali, newly elected President of the GCPS.
Niamatali, in a release from the GCPS, noted that “cervical cancer is the number one preventable cancer among women globally and that 90% occurs in low and middle income countries like Guyana with a mortality rate of some 80%.”
