A date has been set for the commencement of the trial of Kwame McCoy, Jason Abdulla and Shawn Hinds, who are charged with assaulting newspaper columnist and activist Freddie Kissoon.
PPP members McCoy and Abdulla, and former policeman and bodyguard Hinds are accused of dousing Kissoon with human faeces during the attack on May 24, 2010.
During yesterday’s court proceedings before city magistrate Judy Latchman, the three were presented with statements by the prosecution.
The matter was subsequently adjourned to August 8, when the trial is expected to begin.
The attack on Kissoon occurred near Nigel’s Supermarket.
Kissoon had stated afterward that he had just returned to his car after an unplanned stop at the supermarket, when a “very squatty guy” threw a bowl of pungent human faeces directly into his face.
Kissoon, who was already in his vehicle, related that he chased the man to the vicinity of the Merriman Mall, where he fled in a waiting white car. “He just threw it in my face and ran and I drove after him and I was trying to knock him with my car but he went into the car and then the car came at me and I had to swerve,” Kissoon had said.
