A $1.5 million payroll belonging to the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) was last evening stolen while on its way to be distributed.
Stabroek News understands that while accounting staff in the company of a security officer was transporting the funds, a car drove into their path and armed bandits forced the staff out of the vehicle in which they were travelling.
The bandits then reportedly made off with the payroll, the vehicle and a 9mm pistol belonging to the security officer.
The vehicle has since been found on Cemetery Road.
