A Kitty youth was yesterday charged in a city court with the gun-point robbery of one of his neighbours.
Lester Everton, 21, was granted $150,000 bail after denying that he robbed Leon Junior of an iPhone, valued $130,000
Everton was brought before magistrate Faith McGusty, where he denied the charge, which stated that on April 7, at William Street, Kitty, armed with a gun, he robbed Junior.
Prosecutor Seon Blackman objected to bail, while noting that Everton lives only five houses away from Junior and, if released, may pose a threat to him.
When asked by the magistrate why the defendant was only now being charged, Blackman told the court that Everton had been on the run for some time but was recently caught by police.
After hearing the prosecution’s submissions, the magistrate opted to grant Everton his release on bail, which was set at $150,000. The matter has been adjourned to July 28.
