One man is dead and four others are in police custody following an exchange of gunfire with the Police yesterday at Ogle, East Coast Demerara. Dead is Nigel Joseph, 51, of South Ruimveldt.
Stabroek News was reliably informed that at approximately 6 pm yesterday, members of Police C Division, acting on information received, intercepted a large scale drug operation at the Alpha International Hotel, Ogle.
Reports reaching this newspaper state that as the officers attempted to arrest the men, an exchange of gunfire ensued and Joseph was shot to his abdomen. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Four other suspects were taken into custody and a large quantity of cocaine was recovered.
When contacted by Stabroek News for comment, Commander of C Division Marlon Chapman refused to speak on the matter claiming that “it would be unethical for him to speak after Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum”, who he said had already addressed the matter with another media house.
