A mother of two is hospitalized after the vehicle she was traveling in collided with a horse, on the Mocha Arcadia access road. The accident occurred sometime after 9:15 pm yesterday.
The injured woman Diana Payne, 36 of Middle Dam, Albouystown, was up to press time receiving medical treatment from the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. It is unclear how serious are the injuries she suffered.
Stabroek News understands that the woman with her two children ages eight and nine and her cousin Frankie Murphy were travelling to Mocha when the accident happened.
Murphy, the driver of PNN 4631, the vehicle that was involved in the accident said they were travelling at an average speed when the horse bearing brand ID PD64 dashed out from the northern corner of the road and ran into the path of his vehicle.
On the scene of the accident he told this newspaper, that the windscreen was shattering by the horse’s head while its body collapsed the front of the car which resulted in Payne being pinned in the front passenger seat.
Murphy explained that after the collision, he removed his cousin’s daughters and lowered the passenger seat in order to free Payne.
Stabroek News learnt that a passing truck picked up the injured woman and her children and rushed them to the hospital. The children were at the time in the back passenger seat and escaped unhurt.
At the scene of the accident several passing motorists mentioned that the horse had for several days been hampering traffic in the area.
Additionally, residents on the scene complained that though the Ministry of Public infrastructure installed lights they are still to be connected to a power grid and are consequently non-functioning.
These lights had been installed in response to calls from residents after several lives were lost due to accidents in the area.
