Two Wismar men were yesterday charged with the murder of popular Linden newspaper vendor Albert Ashby called ‘Finney’ and have been remanded to prison.
According to Commander of ‘E’ Division Calvin Brutus, the two men—Ronaldo Chapman of Half Mile, Wismar and Shane Fordyce of One Mile, Wismar—appeared before the Wales Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Ashby of Half Mile, Wismar was discovered in an unresponsive state in front of his shop where he conducts his newspaper business on Friday last. He was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Following a post-mortem examination, which revealed that Ashby died as a result of an incised wound to the abdomen, police began a homicide investigation which led to the arrests of Chapman and Fordyce, Brutus revealed.
“The weapon of choice is assumed to be an ice pick or something of that nature,” Brutus said.
He added that the accused will return to court on September 6.
Meanwhile, residents of the area are still in a state of shock, and continue to question why anyone would want to kill ‘Finny’.
“He doesn’t work for any lump sum of money…,” one resident said.
