Chase Academy blitzes GITC 24-0

Georgetown champs Chase Academy recorded the largest margin of victory in this year’s Digicel Schools Football Championship, steamrolling the Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC) 24-0 yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground.

The win which was one goal short of matching the largest victory ever in the tourney’s history, featured 10 different scorers. Kelsey Benjamin was the chief destroyer with eight goals in the 23rd, 36th, 38th, 61st, 69th, 80st, 81st and 83rd minutes.

The next best scorers were Jeremy Garrett with a hat-trick in the sixth, 21st and 32nd minute and Daniel Floy who netted thrice in the fifth, 11th and 29th minute.

Similarly, braces came off the boots of Shomol Smith in the fourth and 78th minute, Stephon Reynolds in the 25th and 76th minute and Jobe Caesar in the 50th and 64th minute.

Completing the score were Ryan Hackett, Reshawn Ritch, Marvin Carter and Timothy Alberts who scored in the 19th, 26th, 74th and 78th minute respectively. Meanwhile, over at the Tucville ground, South Ruimveldt downed East Ruimveldt 1-0.

At the Leonora Sports Facility, Vergenoegen Secondary defeated Stewartville 4-2 on penalty kicks after normal time finished 2-2.

The championship which will be played in the traditional knockout format, will be staged in every region and will end on July 31st at the National Stadium in Providence.
