Streetlights along the Mocha Arcadia access road would be connected to the power grid once the contractor receives needed cables, according to Junior Minister of Public Infrastructure Annette Ferguson.
Ferguson told Stabroek News that the contractor is currently awaiting cables to connect the lights. She noted that there is not a fixed date as to when the contractor would be in possession of the cables.
For years, residents of Mocha Arcadia have been requesting street lights along the community access road, which has seen a high number of road fatalities and other accidents.
On Thursday night, a mother of two was rushed to a hospital after the vehicle she was traveling in collided with a horse along the road.
Frankie Murphy, the driver of the vehicle, said they were travelling at an average speed when the horse dashed out from the northern corner of the road and ran into their path. The animal was decapitated as a result of the collision.
