In observance of World Music Day, the National School of Music has organised a concert tomorrow at the Seawall Bandstand to promote the music of Guyana’s young artistes.
World Music Day is celebrated annually on June 21 and the school has traditionally hosted concerts to observe it. This year’s concert has been organised with the theme, ‘Guyana Vibes.’
According to a statement issued by the Department of Culture, Youth and Sport, the concert will showcase some of the best of Guyana’s young artistes, including former chutney monarch Pooran Seeraj, former Soca Monarch Kwasi Ace Edmondson, multiple calypso and chutney monarch Roger Hinds, Alabama, and the group Collage, among others.
“This line-up of artistes will present a diverse repertoire of music which represents genres associated with the Guyanese musical culture,” the statement said.
It noted that the Mission of the National School of Music is to provide opportunities for young Guyanese to be trained in the field of music and to create a space for them to express those talents.
The event, which will be managed by Burchmore Simon of the Guyana Music Network, will commence at 7pm and is slated to run for two hours.
