M&CC to decentralise operations

The Mayor and City Council (M&CC) of Georgetown would be decentralising their operations from mid July 2016.

According to a M&CC press release, several officers from the Town Clerk’s Department, City Public Health Department, Clerk of Markets Department and City Engineer’s Department have been assigned to operate form the Kitty Market and the Agricola Community Centre. Citizens who live in Kitty, Bel Air Park, Newtown, Campbellville, Subryanville, Cummings Lodge and Atlantic Ville are encouraged to visit the Kitty Market, while citizens who reside between Agricola and Alexander Village should visit the Agricola Community Centre to have their concerns addressed, the release stated.

According to the release, Town Clerk Royston King said the decentralisation would allow citizens to have better access to officers and enable citizens’ complaints and queries to be handled in a timelier manner.

“It is quite a cumbersome arrangement to have senior citizens travelling from as far as Agricola and Cummings Lodge to have issues addressed at City Hall,” the release quoted King as saying.
