A Kitty woman remained in a critical state last night at a city hospital after being stabbed multiple times and left for dead in front of her home by the father of her child.
The woman, Selina Ramotar, aged 29 years, of David Street, Kitty, had just returned home on Saturday evening, after visiting a nearby grocery store when her attacker, who was parked in front of her home, asked for her to give him a few minutes of her time.
According to her sister, who had accompanied her, Ramotar obliged and she decided to not wait on her and began taking the bags, which contained dinner for their family, into the house. But before she could reach their home, situated at the back of a double lot property, she heard faint screams and turned around to see her sister on the ground and the father of her child bent over her and appearing to be punching her. She said that she did not realise that the man was stabbing her sister until she reached the scene and saw her sister lying in a pool of blood.
The woman explained that neighbours too had been alerted by the screams and rushed to her sister’s assistance. It was the neighbours who held on to the man as they called the police.
Ramotar was rushed to the hospital where she underwent emergency surgery and remains in the Intensive Care Unit. She suffered over 10 stab wounds to her breasts, chest, lower abdomen, thighs, and back and doctors are battling to save her nearly severed left hand.
Ranks from the Kitty Police Station arrived quickly at the scene and arrested the Route 40 bus driver, who remains at the Prashad Nagar Police Outpost in custody.
The victim’s sister explained that her sister had suffered abuse over the years and had broken off the relationship with the married father of three, who kept threatening her life, should she not resume relations with him.
“He just don’t want to leave her alone although he is married…he is like that,” the sister told Stabroek News.
