The police’s fatal shooting of Nigel Joseph during a shootout last Thursday at the Alpha International Hotel, at Ogle, East Coast Demerara, is being investigated by the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR), according to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum.
While Joseph, 51 of South Ruimveldt, Georgetown was fatally shot, four others were arrested following the shootout, which occurred when lawmen sought to intercept a large scale drug operation at the hotel.
Reports had revealed that as the officers attempted to arrest the men, an exchange of gunfire ensued and Joseph was shot. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
A large quantity of cocaine was recovered.
