A Quamina Street woman was arrested just before midday yesterday and is currently in police custody after she was caught attempting to post rice which consisted of a quantity of cannabis.
Stabroek News understands that the seizure occurred around 11.50 am yesterday at the Eugene F Correia International Airport, while the woman was posting two bags of Karibe rice to Imbaimadai, Upper Mazaruni River, Region Seven.
The bags were subject to searches by ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch and each one was found to contain three parcels of cannabis, amounting to 1.244 kilogrammes of marijuana. Following the discovery, the woman reportedly told officers that her brother-in-law gave her the bags of rice to post.
She is expected to be charged soon.
