Dear Editor,
I learnt with great sadness of the passing of Engineer Walter Willis. Speaking about Willis can either be done in a few short sentences or in volumes. I choose the former.
I first met Walter on the Essequibo Coast and I have had to interact with him on different levels and circumstances.
Walter was extremely knowledgeable and shared his knowledge and experience freely with both the young and old. He was a gracious general in his own department and a super Guyanese patriot.
Walter’s passing is a great loss, not only to his wife, children and the rest of the family, but to the engineering fraternity and the people of Guyana as a whole. It will not be easy to fill the void created by his untimely demise. I will miss his candour and eagerness to help at all times.
On behalf of my wife, Jennifer and family, we extend sincere condolences to his wife, Dolly, children and the rest of the family. My sojourn in Texas may not allow my presence at his funeral, but I hope that Walter is laid to rest with his traditional hat with which we all associate him as he moved around every part of Guyana.
Yours faithfully,
Hamilton Green
