Holders Sparta Boss will face-off with North East La Penitence while Tucville will tackle Broad Street in the semi-final round following quarterfinal wins in the Ministry of Health/Petra Organization Soft Shoe championships Monday.
Staged at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, the defending champs sent a warning to the remaining contenders, dismantling a formidable Queen Street unit 5-0 led by doubles from Devon Millington and Gregory Richardson.
Millington bagged his brace in the ninth and 20th minute while Richardson secured his double in the eighth and 24th minute. Sealing the lopsided result was Dennis Edwards in the 30th minute.
On the other hand, North East La Penitence sent Sophia packing from the event as they won 3-1 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 score at the end of normal and extra time.
Devon Charles equalised for the eventual winner with a 29th minute shot after Dwayne Lowe had given Sophia the lead in the 21st minute.
Meanwhile, Broad Street downed Kitty Weavers 3-1. Leon Richardson netted a brace in the 12th and 16th minute while Jamal Cozier chipped in with a 28th minute strike.
For Kitty, Colin Clark scored in the 24th minute. Also, Globe Yard lost to Tucville 6-5 on sudden death penalty kicks after normal and extra time finished 5-5.
Tucville’s scorers came in the form of a Dennis Edwards double in the 19th and 23rd minute, a Kareem Knights brace in the 25th and 28th minute and a solitary conversion from Tefon Daly in the 22nd minute
Delon Lanferman netted a hat-trick in the third, 12th and 27th minute while Andrew Murray Jr scored a double in the ninth and 20th minute for Globe Yard.
The event will now move to the Tucville ground tomorrow from 20:00hrs. Winner of the tourney will collect $300,000 and the Championship trophy while the second placed side will receive $200,000 and the runners-up accolade.
The third placed side will receive $100,000 and the respective trophy while the fourth place finishers will pocket $50,000 and the corresponding title.
On the individual side, prizes will be awarded to the event’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Highest Goal Scorer. Other sponsors of the event include the Ministry of Public Health, GTT, Lucky Dollar, Nigel Supermarket, Junior’s Jewellery, Star Party Rentals and 2-J’s General Store.
