Guyana conceded their second straight loss in the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Girls U16 championships, going down to Barbados 29 -40 yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Tower Lorde led the Barbadians with 14 points and as many rebounds for her double-double while Roshanna Thorne performed a similar feat scoring 10 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
Jada Mohan top scored once again in a losing effort with impressive figures of 18 points, 12 steals, nine rebounds and two assists for the Guyanese.
Although it was an improved showing from the locals following their opening loss, the Guyanese fell behind the eight ball at the half time interval which Barbados led 18-6.
This occurred due to an 8-4 opening period before the visitors pulled away in the second stanza by outscoring Guyana 10-2. Barbados maintained their sizeable lead in the third period, netting 10 points to Guyana’s eight points to lead 28-14 going into the final period.
With the visiting team possessing a sizeable lead, Guyana recorded their best offensive period of the event as they outscored their foes 15-12.
Suriname also maintained their unbeaten record, thumping Trinidad and Tobago 59-26. Anita Tolud led the winner with 15 points while Mirelva Marica and Jolaine Nijman chipped with 12 and 11 points respectively.
For Trinidad Megan Rampersad scored seven points. Meanwhile, Antigua and Barbuda rebounded from their opening loss to Barbados to defeat the British Virgin Islands (BVI) by a 29-23 score line.
Britnay Gore recorded a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds in the win. For the loser, Shauliqua Fahie registered a double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Action in the event resumes tomorrow at the same venue with another three matches.
