Mohamed Imrazie Alli, called “Panta,” turned himself over to the police on Thursday after a wanted bulletin was issued for him days earlier in connection with a drug bust at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, over which his two children were charged.
In a wanted bulletin issued on Tuesday, the police had said that Alli, 52, whose last known address was Lot 11 La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara (WCD), was wanted for questioning in relation to the cocaine bust, which occurred on June 8.
Alli turned himself over to ranks at the Guyana Police Force Narcotics Branch on Thursday afternoon in company of his attorney, Bernard Da Silva.
He was taken into custody and is expected to be charged soon.
His two children, Shafaur Alli, 27, and Lazeena Imrazi, 22, were charged on June 13 over the discovery of a quantity of cocaine in frozen fish at the CJIA. They both pleaded not guilty to a charge of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking when they appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan in a Georgetown Court and they were remanded to prison.
The charge stated on June 8, at the CJIA, they had in their possession 9.444 kilogrammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones had told the court that both the defendants, upon arrival at the airport, declared 33 boxes of fish to be exported. The boxes was subject to search by Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) officials and the illegal substance was discovered in the fish.
