A new champion will be crowned tonight when Tucville oppose North East La Penitence in the Ministry of Health/Petra Organization Soft Shoe Championships at the Ministry of Education Ground.
During a brief press conference yesterday at the Guinness Bar on Durban Street, Co-Director of the Petra Organization Troy Mendonca said that all systems are in place for the matchup adding that he expects a highly competitive and exciting finale as both teams are highly skilled.
Also making remarks were the captains of the competing sides. Leader of the Tucville unit Delon Williams during brief remarks expressed confidence in his team, emphatically stating that his team “expect nothing but a victory”.
On the other hand, North East La Penitence captain Michael Payne thanked the company for staging the event and said that while his opponent is a good team, he believes his team has the quality to prevail.
The encounter will be the second meeting of the teams in the event, with the earlier ground stage fixture ending 1-1. Both teams clinched their finals berth via identical routes.
Tucville edged Broad Street 3-2 on penalty kicks while North East La Penitence downed holders Sparta Boss 2-0 from the penalty mark to setup up the showdown
Similar to the first matchup, the experienced Tucville outfit will start as the favourite mainly due to their attacking threat.
From the attacking perspective, the free scoring Tucville unit lead the event with 19 goals in six games at a rate of 3.11 conversions per match.
Leading their attack is Dennis Edwards with seven conversions. He has been ably assisted by the trio of Tefon Daly, Kareem Knights and Kelsey Benjamin with six, three and two goals each.
On the defensive end, Tucville has conceded 12 times an average of two goals per game. On the other side, North East La Penitence, they have recorded 11 goals in their campaign at a rate of 1.83 goals per fixture.
Calvin Moore has been their main weapon with three goals while sibling Alvin Moore and Devon Charles have scored twice. On the defensive end, North East La Penitence has conceded in eight goals which translates to 1.3 goals per match.
Meanwhile, in the earlier third place playoff at 21:00hrs, dethroned kings Sparta Boss and their star studded roster of Devon Millington, Gregory Richardson, Sheldon Shepherd and Eusi Phillips will lock horns with Broad Street and their trio of Darren Benjamin, Jimmy Gravesande and Jamal Cozier.
Winner of the tourney will collect $300,000 and the Championship trophy while the second placed side will receive $200,000 and the runners-up accolade.
The third placed side will receive $100,000 and the respective trophy while the fourth place finishers will pocket $50,000 and the corresponding title.
On the individual side, prizes will be awarded to the event’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Highest Goal Scorer. Other sponsors of the event include the Ministry of Public Health, GTT, Lucky Dollar, Nigel Supermarket, Junior’s Jewellery, Star Party Rentals and 2-J’s General Store.
