The body of a man was found in La Grange early yesterday morning with a wound to his head and his relatives say they are convinced he was murdered.
James Stuart, 50, of Unity Street, La Grange, West Bank Demerara was found several corners away from his home.
Lloyd Richards, Stuart’s brother, explained to Stabroek News that while the man would constantly drink, he had no problems with anyone as he was a friendly and outgoing individual.
“He’s a peaceful man but he just like sport. Every time he get pay he does buy for random people and just drink,” the man explained.
He added that his family had last seen Stuart early Saturday night imbibing in a corner by himself at his sister’s rum shop and when they enquired if he was good he had responded and subsequently left sometime during the night.
However, Richards explained that the family was plunged into mourning after he received a call from a friend enquiring when last he had seen his brother.
“She [his friend] call me about minutes to six and ask me when last I see me brother and I said I don’t know and she said to check on he cause they find somebody looking like he,” Richards said. He said he then rushed to the Ezekiel Funeral Home where his worst fear was confirmed and he saw his brother’s body.
“I went to identify the body along with other sisters and let me tell ya something. It don’t matter how drunk he drunk he does always find he way home and walk on the same street and never got knock down or anything,” Richards said, pointing out that while it was reported that he had suffered from a stab wound, he had a large wound to his head.
“That don’t seem like nothing else but someone lash he in his head with a heavy object because when you go on the spot you seeing blood everywhere. One spot got nuff then it got lil bit and then another spot got more.
Like he get lash and try to run away but drop down and dead there,” Richards said.
He explained that while walking home drunk, Stuart was robbed and beaten several times before and explained that it was most likely the same thing that happened again.
The police are currently investigating the matter.
