Shamar Morris, a carpenter, was yesterday charged with procuring pregnant cocaine mule Patrima Isaacs to traffic a quantity of cocaine last month.
Isaacs was sentenced to three years in jail on July 6 for trafficking 698 grammes of cocaine in the handle of her handbag and in a sanitary napkin in her underwear.
It was alleged that Morris, 20, of Lot 60 D’Urban Street, Lodge, between the period of March 1 and July 3, at Georgetown, procured Isaacs to traffic the narcotics.
Prosecutor Konyo Sandiford-Thompson stated that Isaacs is willing to testify in the matter against Morris, although he, during a confrontation held the day before, claimed not to know the woman. She said, however, that Isaacs gave detailed descriptions of events in her statement in relation to the conspiracy.
Sandiford-Thompson further indicated to the court that the prosecution would have the file ready within a week’s time.
The matter has been adjourned until August 15, and was transferred to Court 2. Morris will remain on remand until that time.
During Isaac’s arraignment, the court heard that on July 3, the woman was stopped and searched in the scanning area of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri where officials observed a white substance wrapped in foil in the bag’s handle. After a body search, the package containing the alleged narcotics were found in her underwear.
Isaacs pleaded guilty to the offence at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and was sentenced to three years in prison and fined $1,884,000.
