A depression along Carifesta Avenue, in the vicinity of the GTT facility, caused a driver to go careening into a nearby trench on Monday after swerving to avoid the recently constructed median.
Shanice Edwards, 20, was in the front passenger seat of PKK 8378, driven by her partner, Paul Meusa, 30, and also occupied by her mother, Faney Pratt, 47, and her six-month-old son Maleak Meusa, when the accident occurred.
Edwards related that around 1 pm, they were going east along Carifesta Avenue when Meusa swerved to avoid the hole but hit a bump instead, sending the car in the direction of the median. To avoid collision with the structure, she said, he turned the steering in the direction of the trench, feeling the outcome would be better than ending up in oncoming traffic. The young woman stated that they had not been speeding at the time.
No major injuries resulted from the accident, although Edwards and Pratt did have some swelling and bruising on their faces.
Pratt also complained of neck pains, while explaining that she had ended up on her back, holding the baby in the air.
Neither the driver of the car nor the child sustained any injuries.
