Yesterday morning Kim Højlund Christensen was accredited as non-resident Ambassador of Denmark to Guyana.
According to a Ministry of the Presidency press release, during the ceremony President David Granger and Christensen committed to ensuring that the existing friendly relations between the two countries are further strengthened for the benefit of both nations.
The release quoted Christensen as saying that the two countries “show an interest in ensuring strong and multilateral organisational frameworks for dealing with challenges of globalisation [and] share a common interest in the achievement of a green economy,” the release stated.
“It is my fervent hope that I would succeed in my endeavours to promote further, the good relations between our two countries,” he added.
According to the release, the President said that relations between the two countries have been characterised by the principles of mutual respect, mutual non-interference in each other’s affairs and co-operation for mutual benefit. He added that Guyana looks forward to working closely with Denmark as Guyana pushes ahead in its drive for a ‘green’ economy.
“We look forward to continued co-operation with Denmark in addressing common global challenges…Guyana, like Denmark, is a small, low-lying, coastal state. We are keen to learn from Denmark’s experience with community energy model, which can guide our own path towards the implementation of our own national ‘green’ agenda…,” he said.
Christensen will be based in Brasilia, Brazil and replaces Svend Roed Nielsen as Ambassador.
