Dear Editor,
I attended the funeral of the late Inez Ophelia Peters, Nursery school teacher, on Friday July 1, 2016.
She started a nursery school in Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt many many years ago, and did so many good things for the community. In her earlier years she was an executive of the GTU and in paying tribute to her the representative of the GTU spoke about how Ms Peters single-handedly raised funds by making and selling sugar cakes and mittai, to support the funding-raising effort to build the GTU hall.
What is important is that we recognize teachers for their hard work in moulding our children in the society. We seem to forget the work that teachers do on a daily basis, since the school is a second home for our children.
Ms Peters loved children and fostered many children from the West Ruimveldt community.
Yours faithfully,
Laurie Greenidge
