The Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) will stage the annual ‘Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis National Novices championships this weekend at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Some 10 gyms will battle for trophies and medals during the three-night fixture which boxes off tomorrow from 19:00hrs.
According to Technical Director of the association Terrence Poole, boxers from the New Opportunity Corps, Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF), Harpy Eagles, Young Achievers, Rose Hall Jammers, Essequibo Boxing Gym, the Guyana Police Force, Republican Gym, Guyana Defence Force and the Pocket Rocket Gym will compete at the local event.
Poole said yesterday that he expects in excess of 60 boxers to participate in the championships and reminded that the weigh-in and the medical of the pugilists will be conducted at 17:00hrs today at the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis Boxing Gym.
The GDF gym are the defending champions.
