A Kitty bus driver, who was brought to a city court by his wife for allegedly pulling a gun on her and threatening to end her life, was yesterday granted $20,000 bail after he denied the charge.
James McKenzie, 50, of Public Road, Kitty, pleaded not guilty to a charge that on July 17, he exhibited threatening behaviour to Donna McKenzie.
The charge was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones told the court that the man had a gun and he threatened to kill his wife.
However, according James, while he and his wife did have an argument, he did not have a gun. James told the court that he is not a licensed firearm holder and, therefore, he had no gun.
Meanwhile, Donna, who was in court, told the magistrate that her husband had the gun during the argument and he left in his bus to hide it when she went to make a report at the Kitty Police Station. She also said that to further protect herself, she got a protection order against her husband.
Bail was granted to James but the magistrate also placed him on a bond to keep the peace until the completion of the trial.
The matter was subsequently adjourned by the Chief Magistrate to September 12.
