Five teams from various branches of the Guyana Police Force yesterday afternoon thrilled a large gathering at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) Square, Eve Leary as they competed in the Force’s Annual Drill Competition.
The teams, smartly attired in their various uniforms, marched onto the TSU Square and entertained the audience with their various drill exercises.
Among those present were the commanders of the various divisions, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum and other senior ranks.
The competing women’s teams were from ‘B’ Division and Special Constabulary, whilst there were three men’s teams from Presidential Guard, TSU and ‘A’ Division.
The competition’s chief Judge was Franklyn Mingo and although there were a few hiccups in some of the performances, each team gathered a fair amount of support.
The first team to perform on the square was Special Constabulary, which gained the approval of almost half the crowd. They were followed by ‘B’ Division. However, the entire audience, which also included family members of the participants, went wild when the Presidential Guard team took to the square.
After the overall competition, it was the Presidential Guard team which emerged on top with 93 points followed by ‘B’ Division with 80.6 points, ‘A’ Division with 85.6 points, TSU with 85 points and Special Constabulary with 79 points. Presidential Guard was adjudged the best men’s team, while ‘B’ Division was adjudged the best women’s team.
Each team was rewarded with trophies and the instructors from Presidential Guard and ‘B’ Division received special awards.
