A date has been set for the start of the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the charge against the three men held in connection with the grenade that was lobbed at the vehicle of the owner of Kaieteur News, Glenn Lall.
Alfie Garraway, 36, of Lot 71 Norton Street; Janiel Howard, 20, of Lot 322 Section C Turkeyen; and Leroy Williams, 25, of Lot 11 D’Urban Backlands, are charged with unlawfully and maliciously conspiring with other persons to cause an explosion by way of using a grenade, which was likely to endanger life or cause serious damage to property on June 4 at Saffon Street, Georgetown.
Police Prosecutor Inspector Neville Jeffers yesterday told Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who will be presiding over the case in Georgetown, that the prosecution’s file is complete and a total of 23 witnesses are expected to testify.
The magistrate subsequently set September 8 for the commencement of the PI.
The police are still to apprehend Shemar ‘Abdue’ Wilson, 20, who they say is also wanted in connection with the incident. A wanted bulletin has been issue by the police for him.
Stabroek News was told that the device was hurled from
a grey car, which was described as a Toyota Spacio. It landed near one of the front wheels of Lall’s vehicle. Surveillance footage was obtained by the police.
The owner of the car was among those held. He was later released.
