One week after it was struck by lightning, Radio Mabaruma, the only local radio station in Region One (Barima-Waini) is now back on air following repairs to the building.
According to a GINA press statement, a technical team from the National Communications Network (NCN) was dispatched to Mabaruma to assess the extent of the damage.
It was further revealed that the circuits on the transmission dish were damaged by the lightning strike but were repaired by the technicians.
NCN also apologized to residents of Region One for the any inconvenience caused by the outage.
An affiliate of the NCN, the radio station which is situated in Broomes Hill, Mabaruma was officially commissioned by Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo on June 11, as a means of facilitating a more inclusive vision for the people in the hinterland.
According to the PM, radio will also play a part in promoting local commodities, while fostering development at both personal and community level.
