Russian language classes are to be launched today at the National Library in Georgetown at 5.30 pm.
A release from the Russian Embassy on Sunday said that the course will be led by a professional linguist from the Russian region of Siberia. The course will also cover Russian culture.
Among the first eight participants are seven University of Guyana students, the release said.
“Maybe most particularly, this is the language of feelings. Russian is the language which contains words with no analogies in other languages related to human relations. It is also an intensely lyrical language. It is well known that the Russian famous authors such as Pushkin lose their strength and beauty if translated into other languages. Once you have achieved some level of proficiency the achievements of the world’s greatest poets from Russia will be open for you,” the release added.
