German’s Restaurant became the latest sponsors of the Guyana Under-21Women’s Baseball team which is preparing to make history come next month when they visit Halifax, Canada to play in an invitational tournament from August 4-8.
Proprietor of German’s Restaurant Clinton Urling made the timely donation to team captain Nia Gonsalves last week.
Urling, who once headed a Normalization Committee of the Guyana Football Federation said: “Sport is a pathway to so many things, education, life’s lessons and empowerment. I look forward to seeing our ladies represent the Golden Arrowhead with pride and poise.”
The team, which features some of the top young ladies most of which hail from Berbice, have written the subject as part of their Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) curriculum and have now gone onto playing and coaching as part of their integration with baseball.
Captain of the team known as “Kanimas” Gonsalves, thanked Urling on behalf of the team, for his continuous support of sport in Guyana and promised to make a pathway for future female baseball teams to follow.
Chris Jones, Director of Sport on behalf of the National Sports Commission (NSC) along with Wendy Quinn, wife of British Ambassador Gregory Quinn, have also thrown their support behind the ladies who will attempt to break new ground.
The Kanimas who will play in the Canadian Women’s Invitational and the matches will be broadcast live on E-Networks.
