With only days remaining before their Digicel Schools Football Final rematch, members of the management staff of defending champion Wismar/Christianburg and Chase Academy have signalled their confidence ahead of the encounter.
Four-time defending champion Wismar/Christianburg sealed their sixth consecutive final’s berth after edging Sir Leon Lessons 2-1 in the semi-final round. Meanwhile, Chase Academy secured their place after dismissing Bush Lot Secondary 10-0.
The last meeting of the teams resulted in a 2-1 win for the incumbent.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday at the Digicel headquarters at Barrack and Fort streets, Coach of the titlist Delon Peters said “In terms of the expectation, it’s the same which is to go all out and win. For the sixth year running we (are) in the final and from the onset we have only lost once so we expect none other than to go all out again and win”.
He said the passion and energy are there and that all the players are enthused, nothing while some of the games might not have gone according to plan, “the team have the heart of a champion and that’s why we are here”.
Similarly, confidence emanated from the Chase Academy unit, with owner of the entity Henry Chase speaking on behalf of the absent head-coach Vurlon Mills.
According to Chase, “We are very confident, we have only one objective and that is to win. To date our toughest game has been against Annai in difficult conditions and we were able to come out victorious. In life there is a time and place for everything and I believe it’s our time and we will defeat them”.
He noted while the Lindeners have dominated the championship since the inception, teams have been narrowing the gap and the possibility exists they might not be as dominant a force in the future. “I can guarantee and I am very confident there will be a new champion”, Chase added.
Meanwhile, the respective captains were more reserved in their declarations, with skipper of the Linden unit Kishan Dey stating “I hope both teams come out and play strong and may the best team win.”
Likewise, Captain of Chase Academy Jeremy Garrett said “I know the game would not be an easy game since they have been playing well over the last few years. We do not expect any slow match or missed plays on the field, we expect a challenging and difficult match come Sunday”.
