Dear Editor,
There is nothing new under the sun. Man has walked the face of the earth for thousands of years, and we as humans beings never seem to learn from the history of human achievements or inhuman behaviour. The world is witnessing several events unfolding at the same time. We are unable to discern the future because we do not consider what went before. On the one hand there is a massive destruction of lives through terrorism, while on the other hand one of the most unlikely candidates vying for the presidency ‒ Donald Trump ‒ will likely accede to the highest public office in the United States of America. The violence that is perpetrated on nations every week is not going to stop, even if Mr Donald Trump wins the presidency.
Undoubtedly, Donald Trump is unconventional and unorthodox, yet in some ways he is unassuming and is winning the hearts of the American populace with his flair, charm and charisma. The real Donald Trump wields power, not against a background of knowledge coupled with wisdom, but with wealth that no other candidate can match.
Have anyone ever seen a Republican candidate arriving at a party convention in such an extravagant, aristocratic and high-class fashion? This man is undoubtedly a Businessman with a capital B, and not a politician as some people would expect when running for the presidency. I may be wrong, but in all my years I have not witnessed such a show as Mr Trump puts on. He is a genius when it comes to impressing his hearers, especially when he came up with the slogan ‘Make America great again’. For some Americans it just doesn’t matter if Donald Trump made his way to the top in business by wheeling and dealing or cheating, they just love the man. This tells me that everything about Trump epitomizes the true characteristics of Americans: authority, pomp, strength, power, prominence and extreme wealth.
Therefore, the average American is not mindful of his irrational rhetoric or his twisted tongue ‒ money talks! This man’s persona represents the image of what America should look like in the minds of the politically unlearned in the USA. Some Americans reserve the right to change their minds as they see fit, and they may very well go for Donald Trump in the last week coming up to the elections in November 2016.
My honest opinion is that Mr Trump is having the time of his life while his detractors are getting goose-bumps. And amidst all the scorn and taunts thrown at him, he will likely be the President of the United States of America.
We may ask the question: Why or how did Nicolás Maduro became President of oil-rich Venezuela? Or how did Zimbabwe accept Robert Mugabe for over four decades as President? Or how did Recep Tayyip Erdogan remain in power in Turkey? Or closer to home, how did Donald Ramotar become President of Guyana? These men too received either a majority or plurality of votes in their nations.
The world we live in today is not the same as the one when we were born; rather the demographics and dynamics of life here on earth are changing at an extremely fast rate. Men will be accepted in societies across the world as approved leaders and will go on to make unrealistic demands and incomprehensible decisions that are beyond human understanding, thus creating hardships for their constituents with their leadership model. The democratic systems of the world today will prepare nations for the worst of human beings being elected as their leaders.
Someone said, “Some people don’t care how much you know, until and unless they know how much you care.”
Mr Donald Trump cares for his business, family and self.
Yours faithfully,
Apostle Vanrick Beresford
