Police are investigating the death of a nine-year-old Black Bush Polder boy who was found unconscious floating in the water at Number 63 Beach yesterday, while on a family outing.
Nine-year-old Daniel Mootoosammy of Lot 1 Yakusari South, Black Bush Polder, left home with his great uncle, two brothers and other relatives to have a fun packed day at the Number 63 Beach early yesterday morning. However, around 2 pm Mootoosammy’s relatives found him floating in the water with froth pouring out of his mouth.
He was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital, where he was in an unconscious state for hours, as doctors worked tirelessly to save him; he later succumbed.
Police initially started to investigate the angle of the child possibly being hit by a jet-ski, as according to persons on the beach, the child was found right after a jet-ski passed by.
The driver of the jet-ski was taken into police custody to assist with the investigation.
Veeren Mootoosammy, the father of the boy, told Stabroek News that he was informed that a jet-skit had hit his son and he was bleeding from the head. However, according to a source at the hospital, when the child was taken to the hospital and examined, there were no external wounds or marks on his body.
Police are waiting on the post-mortem examination to be conducted to assist them with their investigation.
Daniel Mootoosammy was the fifth of his parents’ seven children. His grandmother described him as a “helpful little boy.”
