Three Corentyne farmers were yesterday charged with the murder of the two men and teenage boy who were found shot to death at Mibicuri almost two weeks ago.
The accused, Carlton Chaitram, 40, Jairam Tajeram, 18, and Tameshwar Jagmohan, 26, all of South Mibicuri, Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, Berbice, were each read murder charges when they appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman in a Georgetown court.
According to the charges, between Thursday July 21 and Friday July 22, the trio murdered Pawan Chandradeo, 37, his son, Jaikarran Chandradeo 15, and his brother-in-law Naresh Rooplall, 33, at Mibicuri Backdam.
The unrepresented men were not required to plead to the charges and they were remanded until September 6, when the case is expected to be assigned for the preliminary inquiry into the charges.
The accused men were handcuffed and shackled as they were escorted by police in and out of the courtroom and the court complex compound.
The deceased were found less than a day after they had left to go on a fishing trip at Kokerite Savannah, Mibicuri Creek.
An autopsy revealed that Pawan Chandradeo sustained a laceration to his head, resulting in a fractured skull and he subsequently died of shock and haemorrhaging. His son, Jaikarran, and his brother-in-law, Rooplall, also died of shock and haemorrhaging.
A shotgun is believed to have been used to inflict the deadly wounds.
For Chaitram, it is the second time that he has had a murder charge read against him.
In October of 2013, Chaitram and three others were charged with murdering Lesbeholden resident Jeewanlall Deonarine.
Chaitram and his fellow accused were freed the next year after a magistrate upheld a no-case submission that was submitted on their behalf at the conclusion of the preliminary inquiry into the charge at the Mibicuri Magistrate’s Court.
Deonarine was murdered after a confrontation with the then accused men in the shop where he went to purchase cigarettes. The men reportedly dealt him several lashes to his body. An autopsy performed on the body of Deonarine stated that he died from shock and cerebral haemorrhaging.
