Stabroek News was told that the driver was heading west in the blue  AT 192 Carina, bearing the licence plate PLL 3946, when he attempted to overtake another vehicle and stuck Murray, who stepped out from behind another vehicle to cross the road.

According to eyewitnesses, villagers, upon hearing the loud impact, ran out and flocked to the car, causing the young lad to panic and drive away. His relatives, who were in a car behind him, told Stabroek News that he is an overseas-based Guyanese and was not aware that a police station was located in Number 51 Village and as a result he drove to the Whim Police Station and turned himself into the police.

Both he and the vehicle were later taken to the Number 51 Police Station, where he remains in custody.

Murray is survived by his parents, five sisters and three brothers.
