A 55-year-old man is lucky to be alive after he was struck off of his bicycle by a vehicle on Brickdam, on Tuesday night.
Colwyn McKlennan of Hadfield Street, Wortmanville said he was on Brickdam riding in the vicinity of Starr Computers when he saw vehicle lights approaching. An emotional McKlennan said he could not recall what the vehicle or the driver looked like, or what happened after he was hit down.
McKlennan’s sister, who was at her brother’s bedside, told Stabroek News that there was conflicting information about the incident based on what her brother is saying and what the driver of the vehicle is saying. She said the driver told the police that her brother was the one who rode his bicycle into the path of his car.
Whatever the case, the sister said, she is happy that her brother is alive and grateful that the driver had rushed him to the hospital. However, one thing that puzzled her was that the bicycle her brother was riding was not recovered.
McKlennan’s injuries included a broken left leg which is now in a cast and bruises on the left side of his face.
Police are investigating the incident, the family told Stabroek News.
