Dear Editor,
Last month the media reported favourably on the voluntary construction of a comfortable shed with ample seating accommodation for the senior citizens using the Blairmont Post Office.
Today, I am pleased to report that with the generous contribution of some other people, especially Rudy Rampersaud of the D’Edward Back-shop and Fizul Ali (aka Massive), a unique facility in the form of a private flush toilet and urinal for both male and female pensioners was put into operation in time for their August assembly to collect their pension payments. (This was another kind of ‘emancipation’, especially for our female senior citizens who previously had nowhere to go while their male counterparts ‘freely’ used the nearby trees and bushes to relieve themselves!)
It is believed that this is perhaps the first time such facilities have been made available for public use at places like banks, post offices and typical government offices. I trust it would be yet another ‘catalyst’ for similar services at places serving the public, especially our senior citizens who are forced to wait for unduly long periods of time for simple services.
I publicly thank all who have helped and are continuing to help as we try to make life better for the community at large.
Yours faithfully,
Nowrang Persaud
