The poor execution of projects by contractors in Region One is a source of major concern for the region’s administration as it strives to complete its 2016 capital works before the reading of the 2017 Budget, according to Chairman Brentnol Ashley.
According to a GINA press release Ashley’s administration is currently assessing projects across the region and measures are being put in place to ensure that the public works committee is more effective in the monitoring and evaluation process so as to ensure value for money.
The release stated that the 2016 Budget-approved sum for Region One was $2.345 billion, which included $35.446 million for rehabilitation of bridges, $31 million for road construction, $65.29 million for buildings and $52.045 million for health. The Region’s 2017 budget will see more roads, schools and health facilities being constructed and upgraded.
