Murder accused Orpheus Johnson was yesterday committed to stand trial for the killing of Gladstone George, who was shot to death execution-style aboard a minibus in full view of several passengers at Agricola, East Bank Demerara last year.
The decision was made yesterday at the close of the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the charge against Johnson, 29, of Second Street, Craig, East Bank Demerara, who is charged with killing George, 32, of Lot 40 Brutus Street Agricola in April last year.
The murder accused also led his defence yesterday by calling upon his common-law wife, Shemicka Johnson, to testify.
After her testimony, the matter was stood down and then reconvened for the magistrate’s decision.
The magistrate told Johnson that she was satisfied with the case and evidence presented by the prosecution against him as it relates to the murder charge and subsequently stated that he is to stand trial at the next sitting of the assizes.
She also reminded the accused that though he has been committed to stand trial in the High Court for the murder of George, he still has to return to her court room for the PI into the charge against for Travis Rudder’s murder. That PI is schedule to commence on August 24.
In July of 2015, Johnson was also charged with the murder of Travis Rudder, who was fatally shot at his Nandy Park residence. The attack on Rudder had left his fiancée and young child wounded.
