A two-bedroom house suddenly collapsed on Sunday at Kilcoy Chesney Housing Scheme, placing a single mother, her three-year-old son and her cousin in jeopardy.
According to a neighbour, he was sitting on his stairs while the wind was blowing heavily when suddenly, the house crashed to the ground, damaging its walls and flooring.
The owner of the house Eureka Natasha Marks said she was a few houses away when she was informed that her house was falling.
The woman, who is an estate labourer, explained that she borrowed money from the bank in order to build the house which cost her $4 million; she only moved in about a year ago.
The 34-year-old woman broke down in tears as she spoke with Stabroek News; she explained that she has no one to turn to. She noted that since the house no longer has a secure back wall, it is unsafe for her and her family to live there. However, she said that they have continued to live in the house despite the damage because they have nowhere else to go.
She is pleading with the authorities and the general public for any sort of assistance. She even went as far as to call on President David Granger, to look into the matter and assist her in improving her situation.
