A Queens, New York couple was reunited yesterday outside Brooklyn Federal Court after the man was released on US$20,000 bail for calling in a fake bomb threat against a Caribbean Airlines flight to prevent his girlfriend from travelling to Guyana.
The New York Daily News yesterday said that Danesh Gomanie admitted he was acting out of jealousy — and the influence of a few beers — when he was overcome with fear his girlfriend was going to reunite with her ex-husband.
Gomanie, 33, is charged with calling 911 on July 27 and telling the operator that there was a woman traveling to Guyana on flight No. 527 from Kennedy Airport on July 29, and she would be carrying a bomb or drugs, according to the criminal complaint.
He gave the operator his girlfriend’s first name and Customs and Border Protection officers confirmed there was a woman with a ticket on the flight, the report said.
Meanwhile, the FBI traced the call to Gomanie’s cellphone and agents separately interviewed the couple. She told the agents she had an argument with Gomanie about her trip to Guyana, and he admitted that he was “fearful that she might reunite with her ex-husband who lived there.”
“It’s just jealousy,” said the girlfriend, who declined to give her name. “We’re back together. I forgive him.”
After he was released, Gomanie said he was in bed with his girlfriend when the FBI came to arrest him early yesterday morning.
She laughed off the idea that she wanted to get back with her ex-husband, whom she has been separated from for 10 years.
Defence lawyer Mildred Whalen said Gomanie agreed to live with his father at his father’s home in Jamaica, Queens, as a condition of his release, the report added.
Gomanie works as a mechanic for a private company at Kennedy Airport.
