The charge of having a derelict vehicle blocking a parapet brought against Member of Parliament Juan Edghill was yesterday dismissed on the basis that insufficient evidence was presented.
Edghill had been charged on April 19 with having a derelict vehicle that the city stated blocked a parapet along Sugar Cane Street, South Ruimveldt on March 7.
This newspaper had previously reported that on the day in question, when asked by a City Constable, Edghill admitted ownership of the neglected vehicle, which had its four wheels deflated and grass growing around it. It was also stated that the MP was given two weeks to remove it but this was not done, hence the charge. Esghill had pleaded not guilty and was released on self-bail. When the case was called again yesterday before Magistrate Annette Singh in Court 11, it was dismissed for want of evidence.
Later yesterday, Edghill issued a statement in which he said he was “concerned about the abuse of the judicial process to target, intimidate and victimise Guyanese for political and other purposes.”
He further encouraged public servants and officials in the employ of the state to be professional and refuse to be used as instruments to settle political scores by the APNU+AFC administration.
