Five Venezuelan women who were yesterday charged with entering Guyana illegally were fined and deported to their country.
The court heard that on July 9, at Eteringbang, Cuyuni River, Yaloa Figueroa, 26; Fohana Gutiérrez, 34; Maria Figueroa, 20; Yonaly Sanchez, 36; and Diana Gutiérrez, 19; all of Venezuela, entered Guyana by sea and disembarked without the consent of an immigration officer.
The five women pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to them by Magistrate Leron Daly. Through the use of an interpreter, the magistrate informed the women that they were fined $20,000 each and would be deported to Venezuela.
