Ranks attached to the Police narcotics branch on Tuesday intercepted a large quantity of cocaine hidden in seafood at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.
The police in a statement yesterday said that around 18:40 hours Tuesday, the ranks intercepted a cargo shipment of thirty-five boxes of seafood, eight of which contained a total of 88.2 kilos (around 194 lbs) of cocaine.
The shipment was part of an outgoing cargo and a West Coast Demerara businessman is presently in custody.
Meanwhile, ranks from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) yesterday unearthed a quantity of cocaine concealed in more than twenty bottles of deodorant and a Jamaican national was arrested.
Stabroek News was reliably informed that the bust was made at the Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPO) during inspection.
It tested positive for cocaine and amounted to 540 grammes.
